1st XI vs. Baxenden 1st XI (h)
Saturday 10th May 2025

Winning the toss, Ribblesdale elected to bat first.Openers Hammad and Waqar got off to a strong start, finding the boundary regularly before Waqar fell attempting one aggressive shot too many. Heshan followed soon after, caught at mid-off off a poorly executed full toss. Jordan Kelly then joined Hammad, rotating the strike well as the partnership grew steadily. However, just as momentum was building, Hammad (29) was caught at long-on while taking on the fielder in the deep, ending a valuable 55-run stand. Mack Spencer came in and picked up where he left off last week, batting patiently, working the singles, and punishing loose deliveries. Meanwhile, Jordan settled into his innings, striking the ball cleanly and accumulating runs with a mix of well-placed singles and boundaries. After a well-made 68 off 72 balls, Jordan was dismissed, and Ryan Canning followed shortly after, playing on to his stumps. Skipper Bilal and Mack then pushed the score forward with smart running before both fell in the closing stages—Bilal going for a big shot and Mack departing after a solid 45. The innings wrapped up quickly, with Ribblesdale posting a respectable but slightly below-par 205.

In response, Ian and Jordan Britcliffe opened the bowling with tight lines, making scoring difficult. Jordan struck first as Baxenden’s opener skied one to the ever-reliable Michael Worthy. Ian soon followed with another breakthrough, removing the number three—again caught by Worthy. Baxenden rebuilt through their professional and number four, adding 76 runs before Heshan and Michael Worthy were introduced. The change worked immediately: Heshan trapped the pro LBW for 29, while Michael, bowling with good pace, clean-bowled the number four for 49. He then struck twice more in his next over, leaving Baxenden reeling at 99/6. Heshan claimed his second LBW soon after (110/7), but Baxenden counterattacked, taking the score to 131 before Heshan struck again (131/8). Michael finished his match-defining spell with 3/46 off seven overs, and Waqar wrapped up the tail with two quick wickets in the 37th over. Baxenden were all out for 153, handing Ribblesdale their second consecutive win and another 12 points - a result that builds crucial momentum in their league campaign.

Congratulations to Jordon Kelly on his maiden half-century for Ribblesdale Wanderers! A fantastic achievement and a well-deserved milestone. Here’s to many more!

2nd XI vs. Baxenden 2nd XI (a)
Saturday 10th May 2025

The Ribblesdale Wanderers 2nd Team arrived at Baxenden full of confidence, aiming to extend their winning streak to four matches.

After winning the toss, they opted to bat first. Openers Travis and Tandy laid a steady foundation before Travis was run out attempting a risky second run, leaving Ribblesdale at 25-1. Hutchy joined Tandy at the crease, and the pair built a solid partnership until Tandy (32 off 57 balls) fell to a loose shot. A quick collapse followed, with Hutchy, Stewart Trotter, and Josiah Finn departing in succession, leaving the visitors in a precarious position at 102-5. Enter Matt Brett, who injected momentum into the innings with a brisk 28 off 40 balls, forming a crucial partnership with Collinge (36 off 40) to push the score to 144. However, wickets tumbled again as Brett was clean bowled, Collinge fell shortly after, and Luke Spencer was caught cheaply—leaving Ribblesdale at 156-8. The tailenders then stepped up magnificently. Charlie Windsor added a vital 21, while Kershaw (20*) and Fielding (15*) finished unbeaten, guiding the team to a competitive total of 216-9 off 45 overs. Knowing early wickets were key,

Ribblesdale’s bowlers delivered. Kershaw struck in the third over, and Jack Fielding kept the pressure on at the other end, each claiming three wickets apiece (Kershaw: 8 overs, 3-13; Fielding: 7 overs, 3-32). Baxenden’s top order crumbled to 61-6. Charlie Windsor and Travis Blezard then took over—Windsor bowled a fiery spell, consistently beating the bat, while Blezard wrapped up the tail with an impressive 4-23 off 6.3 overs. Baxenden were eventually dismissed for 89, handing Ribblesdale a commanding 127-run victory.

With maximum points from their first three league games, the Wanderers’ 2nd Team are flying high—momentum is firmly on their side!

3rd XI vs Brinscall 3rd X1 (h)
Sunday 11th May 2025

The 3rd team kicked off their season hosting Brinscall at Church Meadow.

After winning the toss, Brinscall elected to bat first. Ribblesdale made an early impact in the field, with Keelan claiming two quick wickets and tight bowling restricting the visitors to 14-2. However, a few solid partnerships—including a captain’s knock of 46 helped Brinscall recover to 145-6. Stephen Tandy then tore through the lower order, taking 4 wickets to bowl Brinscall out for a competitive 156 on a tricky batting surface.

In reply, Brett and Finn opened but struggled on the difficult pitch, falling cheaply to leave Ribblesdale at 8-2. The Fielding father-son duo steadied the ship with a brisk 36-run partnership, but Scott’s dismissal while pushing the scoring left the middle order exposed. Wickets tumbled, and at 79-7, the game seemed all but lost—until Tandy and Billy Worthy combined for a resilient stand, taking the score to 110-7. Just as hope flickered, Tandy was undone by a grubber that trapped him LBW. Skipper Luke joined Worthy, and with 25 needed, the chase was alive—until a misjudged shot saw Luke also fall LBW. Worthy was left stranded as the last wicket fell at 131, handing Ribblesdale a 25-run defeat.

While starting the season with a loss isn’t ideal, 5 points from an off-colour performance gives the 3rds something to build on.

Plenty to work on, but signs of fight in the middle order bode well for the games ahead.
