1st XI vs. Whalley 1st XI
Saturday 3rd May 2025

The 1st XI hosted Whalley Cricket Club at Church Meadow, where Ribblesdale won the toss and elected to bat. However, the innings got off to a shaky start as Ribblesdale lost both openers and their professional early, leaving them struggling at 29-3. Jordon Kelly decided to counterattack, taking an aggressive approach against Whalley’s bowlers, but his charge was cut short when he was caught attempting another big shot, leaving Ribblesdale at 63-4.

The skipper, coming off a fine performance last week, couldn’t replicate his form and fell to a caught-and-bowled dismissal for a duck, leaving the score at a precarious 68-5. Enter Hutchy, who joined Mack Spencer at the crease, knowing a strong partnership was needed to set a competitive total. The duo dug deep, adding 61 crucial runs before Hutchy was dismissed, taking Ribblesdale to 129-6. Shortly after, Mack Spencer raised his bat for a hard-fought 50- a brilliant knock under pressure! Trying to accelerate in the closing overs, Mack was caught soon after reaching his milestone. Jordan Britcliffe fell quickly, leaving Ribblesdale at 133-8, but Charlie Windsor and Michael Worthy added a vital late partnership to take the innings to 153-8. On a tricky surface, Ribblesdale believed they had a defendable total.

Whalley’s chase began positively, with one opener surviving an early LBW appeal off Jordan Britcliffe. However, Jordan struck soon after, removing the other opener to leave Whalley at 29-1. A quick-fire wicket from professional Heshan made it 33-2, before Whalley’s own professional, Levi Wolfenden, steadied the innings. Michael Worthy then entered the attack and claimed the second opener, making it 63-4. Jordan Britcliffe finished his opening spell with impressive figures: 11 overs, 4 maidens, 29 runs, and 1 wicket. With Wolfenden at the crease, Whalley began to take control—until Bilal reintroduced Heshan, changing the game completely. The professional struck twice in quick succession, leaving Whalley at 107-5 and reigniting Ribblesdale’s hopes. Wolfenden fought back with some aggressive shots, but Heshan struck again at 125-6, before claiming the biggest wicket of all—Levi Wolfenden, caught brilliantly by Jordan Britcliffe on the boundary edge! (Just how close Jordan was to the rope remains a mystery!) Heshan finished his outstanding spell with 15 overs, 4 maidens, 48 runs, and 5 wickets - his first five-wicket haul for Ribblesdale!

At 125-7, the game hung in the balance. The Whalley skipper played some elegant shots but made a fatal error— taking on Jordon Kelly’s arm, resulting in a brilliant direct-hit run-out (139-8). Waqar Rattique, bowling a tight spell, then got in on the action with a quick stumping by Hammad Amin (144-9). Finally, Michael Worthy returned with pace, clean bowling Whalley’s number 11 to seal an 8-run victory!

A nail-biting finish at Church Meadow, and a first win for skipper Bilal! Special congratulations to Mack Spencer for his crucial 50 and Heshan for his maiden five-wicket haul in Ribblesdale colors!

2nd XI vs. Oswaldtwistle Immanuel 2nd XI
Saturday 3rd May 2025

Ribblesdale traveled to Oswaldtwistle on Saturday, looking to build on their strong start to the season and secure a second consecutive victory.

After Oswaldtwistle won the toss and elected to bat, Ribblesdale’s bowlers immediately took control of the game. Jack Fielding made an early breakthrough, claiming two quick wickets to leave the hosts reeling at 3-2. Oswaldtwistle’s number four showed attacking intent, but Graeme Kershaw swiftly ended his stay, clean bowling him. Fielding struck again at the other end, leaving Oswaldtwistle in deep trouble at 29-4. The opening bowler finished his excellent spell with figures of 7 overs, 2 maidens, 19 runs, and 3 wickets.

The pressure only intensified as Luke Spencer joined the attack, adding another wicket to the tally. Meanwhile, the ever-reliable Kershaw continued his fine form, taking two more scalps to reduce Oswaldtwistle to a precarious 40-7. Kershaw’s outstanding figures of 10 overs, 2 maidens, 14 runs, and 3 wickets highlighted his dominance. Oswaldtwistle’s number eight provided some late resistance, smashing a quickfire 36, including several boundaries. However, a brilliant catch by Stephen Tandy off Travis Blezard’s bowling ended the innings at 80-8 (Oswaldtwistle fielding only nine players).

Chasing a modest target of 81, Ribblesdale began confidently. Travis Blezard raced to 20 before being bowled, making it 24-1. Kristian Collinge, making his season debut, fell cheaply after an aggressive shot saw him caught—24-2. Stewart Trotter then joined Stephen Tandy at the crease, and the pair steadied the innings with a crucial 49-run partnership. Tandy was eventually dismissed LBW for a well-made contribution (73-3), and John Rain followed soon after (75-4). However, Trotter remained composed, guiding Ribblesdale to a six-wicket victory with an unbeaten 39. With this win,

Ribblesdale maintains a perfect start to the season—two wins from two, with maximum points. A superb all-round performance sets them up nicely for the challenges ahead.

2nd XI vs Barrowford CC 2nd X1
'Ramsbottom Cup'
Sunday 4th May 2025

Ribblesdale traveled to Barrowford for their Ramsbottom Cup fixture, aiming to build on their impressive semi-final run. After Barrowford won the toss and elected to bowl, Ribblesdale faced a challenging batting track, starting cautiously.

The innings began shakily as Stephen Tandy fell early, edging behind to the keeper with the score at 4-1. Kristian Collinge, coming in at number three, looked to make an impact and formed a steady partnership with Travis Blezard, pushing the score to 51 before Blezard (24) nicked one to the keeper. Collinge followed soon after, clean bowled for 22, leaving Ribblesdale at 56-3. Alistair March, making his season debut, joined Stewart Trotter at the crease and contributed 9 before a leading edge resulted in a caught-and-bowled dismissal. The middle order then faltered, with Matthew Brett and Josiah Finn departing in quick succession, leaving Ribblesdale in trouble at 83-6.

Enter Luke Spencer. Partnering with Trotter, the duo staged a crucial recovery. Trotter, finding his rhythm and aided by some lapses in Barrowford’s fielding, notched Ribblesdale’s first half-century of the season. The pair added 95 runs before Trotter’s aggressive 85 (85 balls, 14 fours) came to an end as he was bowled by the returning opening bowler—178-7. Charlie Windsor (14) and Jack Fielding (including a towering six over mid-wicket) provided late impetus, while Spencer remained unbeaten on a composed 31 off 38 balls. Ribblesdale finished their innings at 217-8—a competitive total on a tricky surface.

Defending their score, Ribblesdale’s new-ball duo, Charlie Windsor and Jack Fielding, wreaked havoc, reducing Barrowford to 26-5. However, their opener mounted a defiant counterattack, capitalizing on some sloppy fielding to keep his side in the hunt. His aggressive 61 kept Barrowford’s hopes alive until Luke Spencer trapped him LBW at 100-7. From there, Barrowford’s chase lost steam. Josiah Finn claimed his first wicket of the season, supported by three sharp catches, while Travis Blezard chipped in with a wicket and a run-out to wrap up the innings. Barrowford were bowled out for 156, sealing Ribblesdale’s victory and their progression to the next round.

A commanding all-round performance ensures Ribblesdale’s Ramsbottom Cup journey continues in style.
